  • Gay Rights?

So I was reading TheTheologiansCafe's blog and the link about gay being the new black.
I just want to put my two cents up here.
First I didn't know what the difference between Civil Rights and 'Gay' Rights were, so I looked up the definition of civil rights.

A broad range of privileges and rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution and subsequent amendments and laws that guarantee fundamental freedoms to all individuals. These freedoms include the rights of free expression and action (civil liberties); the right to enter into contracts, own property, and initiate lawsuits; the rights of due process and equal protection of the laws; opportunities in education and work; the freedom to live, travel, and use public facilities wherever one chooses; and the right to participate in the democratic political system.

No where does it say the right to marry, however, is marriage a fundamental freedom to all individuals?
    I think it should be.

Another issue with whether or not homosexuals be allowed to marry is that it's a religious argument.
(Some) People believe it is a sin and unnatural.
    However,
I always thought the Constitution separated church from state?
If that's really so, then why is a religious argument being represented in the government?
Perhaps individual churches should decide for themselves whether or not they are willing to marry two people of the same sex.

    What do you think?

  • Sorority stereotypes

So, I'm rushing the sororities here at my school.
I've always been a little bit skeptical of 'Greek Life' simply because they have horrible reputations.

I once read a book called Pledge which delves into all the negatives of sorority life which scared me off of even considering Greek Life.

But then I got to thinking.
Just because they were all horrible alcoholic, drugged-up skanks with eating disorders doesn't mean every sorority at every school is like that.
In fact, I bet a majority of greek associations are fairly decent.
At every college there will be drinking, drugs, sex, and other issues.
I don't believe Greek Life would make it all that much more prevalent, it just gives you better networking to find all the fun.  Ultimately a person will not develop issues simply because of a sorority or fraternity, everyone always has a choice.  Always.

What really shocked me was when I received an E-mail from my mom telling me to call her asap because she had something important to tell me.  My first thought was that someone was hurt, in the hospital, there was an emergency.  No, she just wanted to tell me that a friend of hers daughter informed her that ALL Kappa Kappa Gammas did coke, so I shouldn't pledge there.
Excuse me?  You mean there isn't one single female KKG anywhere in the nation that doesn't do coke?
    How unbeleivable is that?
It could be that way at her school, but I like to think the people at my school don't
Maybe I'm being naive, but I go to a small liberal arts collge with a really challenging curriculum.
There are only four sor. and not even a total of 2,300 students.  I'm not saying it's 'better' I'm just saying it's different.

Basically, people doing such extreme stereotypes really irritates me.
    Always think before you speak.
If there could be even one exception to the rule don't use absolute words like always or never.

  • Starting over

So, this is not my first ever Xanga.
It's just a new one for me.
This will be my blog for basic rambling, random insights, and whatever i feel like putting up.

At the moment, nothing super important has happened, but how about some background info?
I'm a freshmen in college and not quite struggling with the transition, but I don't really have any close friends yet, but that'll come in time.
    I have hope.
I'm a soon- to-be double major in English-writing, and philosophy.
My ultimate ambition is to become a successful young adult/ adult author and live in a nice little house in the Colorado country.

I also hope to one day find someone to share my ambitions with.
It would be nice, but not an absolute necessity, I suppose.

I'm also a little bit of a health freak, no ed's here, just a health conscious young woman who enjoys physical challenges.

    Well, that's it for now.

  • Hi everyone! I'm just getting started on Xanga... Drop me a comment if you've got some ideas on what to do first - or just to say, "Hi!" :-)
